Dear Friend of Trout Unlimited Canada

Project Healing Waters Canada is pleased to partner with the Northern Lights Fly Tyers, Trout Unlimited Edmonton Chapter, for their 2010 Dinner and Silent Auction on October 23, 2010.  We are excited to have partnered with the Edmonton Chapter of Trout Unlimited as this group of dedicated fly tyers and anglers forms a substantial part of the training and deleveopment of new fly-anglers through the Project Healing Waters Program.

Your support of the 2010 Northern Lights Auction and Dinner supports the Cold Water Conservation initiatives of Trout Unlimited Edmonton Chapter in addition to providing the dedicated funding necessary to provide the Healing Waters program to our clients.  PHWFFC clients are comprised of Canadian Forces Soldiers as well as civilians who are suffering severe physical injury or Post Traumatic Stress and are looking for alternative methods for rehabilitation.

We offer the ability to discover fly-fishing in a safe and controlled environment at the hands of experienced anglers with a passion for the sport with attention to the conservation needs of our cold water resources. Our program supports: members of the Canadian Forces, RCMP and Municipal Police Forces, Corrections Canada, Fire and Emergency Services personnel and Canadians who have suffered amputations.

    Your support is greatly appreciated.

  • Call for Volunteers – Redd Survey – Looking for Spawning Activity

    Call for Volunteers!

The Northern Lights Fly Tyers – TUC Edmonton Needs your help to complete a project this fall!

Event – Redd Survey – walking along the river looking for spawning activity

When – between October 15 and November 15 –as people are available

    Where – the Raven River

Contact – Richard LeBlanc at rick.leblanc27@gmail.com to coordinate effort.

Why – Through a partnership between the Edmonton Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Golder Associates, we are conducting an investigation of fish and fish habitat and riparian health on the Raven River, near Caroline Alberta. This work is part of an overarching study to assess riparian conditions in the watershed as well as assess the composition of the fish community and the distribution of fish in the river, and to help estimate population size. As part of this work, TUC and Golder will again be conducting a survey for brown trout redds on the Raven River. The survey is a great opportunity to see the river during an important time of year, learn/sharpen redd survey skills, or just enjoy a day on the water.

instructions if you want to help out – If you are available and interested in participating in this effort, reply to  rick.leblanc27@gmail.com using this email using and the same subject line, and list your preferred dates (between October 15 and November 15), and the number of volunteers available. I will then contact volunteers to discuss details and provide an information package including maps and specific instructions on how to conduct the survey.

What to bring – chest waders and a GPS
