A recent posting on Fly Fish Alberta is calling for public input on the Quality Fishery at Police Lake in Southern Alberta. This lake currently has special regulations, but there is a proposal to revert back to the old rules. Special rules are also in place at Muir Lake to help improve and sustain the quality of the fishery. Help influence the decision for Police Lake and other Quality Fisheries by sending a message to Terry as per the message below.
Police Outpost Lake. Review of Quality Fishing Regulation. Public/Stakeholder Input requested.
Proposal #1 Keep the current regulations (1 Trout Limit over 50 cm; Bait Ban; Closed November 1 to March 31)
Proposal #2 Go back to the previous regulations (5 Trout Limit; No Size Restrictions; No Bait Ban; Open Year Round)

Leave it a trophy lake so big fish will still be there.
Please change back to the regular provincial fishing rules that applied prior to the current rules
I would like to know how a bunch of organized fly fishers from northern Alberta think it is legitimate to try to influence the fishing of anglers who have enjoyed this lake for many years.
Police was a superb fishery open to all types of angling and was a preferred fishing location for families. That type of recreational experience has largely disappeared except for the primma donnas who now want their own private fishery.
My disdain for your type of interference knows no bounds. By the way I am a long time fly fisher but would not presume to impose my wishes on others as you are doing.

Change it back the way it was before.
@Paul Stevenson
Paul – I gather from the tone of your comment that you feel that the Northern Lights has some stake in this. We are merely extending the invitation to comment on this issue – not taking a stance either for or against.
I’m saddened that you find public consultation to be ‘interference’ as many of the lakes in this province have had regulation and access changes by locals with no public consultation at all.
Please also note that this is not a forum for sending your thoughts to the SRD, it is merely a means to communicate the news of a desire to change regulations.
For those of you who have commented in the belief that the SRD will hear your comments – please note the contact address in the message.
I’m for changing it back to the way it was (proposal2) The current rules basically eliminated the chance for families to experience the joy of fishing (bait). I’m a fly fisherman too and enjoy the thrill of a large trout on the line, but I don’t feel it’s fair for that joy to be limited to a elite boys club few who selfishly want to keep that thrill to themselves with trophy class of fishing.
If you wish to comment on the potential for a regulation change, please direct your comments to the SRD at the location specified. We have merely posted a link to the proposals, the location for which comments should be directed. This was not an open invitation for attacks. There are plenty of ways to angle without bait – both on the fly, and off. I’ve seen dozens of ‘boys’ fishing at Muir with spin gear quite successfully. To claim that opportunities are being restricted to an ‘elite boys club’ is simply unacceptable.
The purpose for opening these talks to public discussion is to prevent any single group from being over-represented, ‘elite boys club’ or ‘redneck bait chucker’ alike.
Now lets act in a civil manner folks.
Please leave it with the current regulations. There are enough lakes to support lakes with bait fishing, eg Beauvais, and leave some lakes like Police with bait bans and size limits. It should not be all one type of fishing or the other.
We would both like the regulations left they way the were before the bait ban. We have fished there for 20 years and have enjyed it. We do not take any fish out of the lake as we believe in Catch & Release. This way we can take a picture sometimes and look at them later. Yes, I too believe this should be for families to enjoy the thrill of children catching their first fish and seniors love the peace and quite while waiting for their bite. Seniors truly enjoy thier time at Police lake – our Mom sure does! There are plenty of other lakes for the fly fisherman to fish at. Please leave this one for families.
